Program Description

‘Imiloa Astronomy Center’s mission is to honor Maunakea by sharing Hawaiian culture and science to inspire exploration.

ʻImiloa, a part of the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo, offers a myriad of educational opportunities to local, national, and international audiences. From K-12 field trips and camps, astronomy outreach partnerships, college level internships to annual events such as ʻImi Naʻauao, a Wayfinding Skills workshop in partnership with ʻOhana Waʻa and the Wayfinding and Navigation Festival.

The hope is to make an impact on the next generation of astronomers and space scientists, as well help to improve the public level of science literacy and encourage interest in science, technology, engineering, and math.
